Hire a senior Ruby on Rails developer
Senior freelance Rails developer with over a decade shipping production SaaS. I build MVPs in 6 to 10 weeks, modernize legacy Rails apps and integrate Stripe billing and PostgreSQL the way they were meant to be used. Full quote in 24 hours.
What I do
Three engagement shapes, one mindset: ship working software.
SaaS MVPs in 6–10 weeks
Rails 7 + Postgres + Stripe. Auth, billing, admin panel, the boring 70% done right so you can spend cycles on the product-specific 30%.
Rails modernization
Stuck on Rails 5 or 6? Bundle gem upgrades, asset pipeline migration to esbuild/importmaps, Turbo/Stimulus refactor, dropping jQuery. No big-bang rewrites.
Stripe & PostgreSQL deep work
Subscriptions, metered billing, tax handling, webhook reconciliation. PG schema audits, query optimization, indexes that actually help.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire a Ruby on Rails developer?
For a freelance senior Rails developer based in Europe, expect €60–€95 per hour or €4,000–€18,000 for fixed-scope MVP projects. I quote per project after a 30-minute discovery call. Full written quote within 24 hours.
How long does a Rails MVP take?
A focused MVP with auth, billing (Stripe), one core entity model and an admin panel ships in 6 to 10 weeks. Larger SaaS with multi-tenant data, workflows or custom integrations take 10 to 16 weeks. I always commit to a deadline before starting.
Do you work remotely and what is your time zone?
Yes, fully remote. I am based in Barcelona, Spain (CET / UTC+1). I overlap comfortably with European, UK and US East Coast schedules. For US West Coast clients I commit to morning slots up to 4–5 hours of overlap per day.
Do you sign NDAs?
Yes, NDAs are standard before I see private code or product details. I usually sign the client’s NDA without changes. If you don’t have one, I provide a one-page mutual NDA you can use.
What is your Rails stack?
Rails 7+, Ruby 3.2+, PostgreSQL, Sidekiq for background jobs, Hotwire (Turbo + Stimulus) on the front-end, TailwindCSS, RSpec for testing, and Heroku or Render for deployment when no DevOps team exists.
Do you offer post-launch maintenance?
Yes. After launch I offer a monthly retainer that covers bug fixes, dependency upgrades, security patches and small feature work. Plans start at €490/month. Retainer is optional, never required.
What does your typical engagement process look like?
Step 1: a free 30-minute call to scope. Step 2: written quote within 24 hours with milestones and price. Step 3: 30% upfront, work begins, weekly demos. Step 4: handoff with code, docs and recorded walkthroughs. Step 5: optional retainer.
Can you work on an existing Rails codebase or only greenfield?
Both. About half my engagements are existing Rails apps that need feature work, refactors, performance fixes or version upgrades. I do an audit on the first day and report concrete findings before touching production.
